Demonstration in Rameswaram



The who is who of Tamil cinema gathered in Rameswaram yesterday to express solidarity and protest the killing of ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka by the army. The protesters included directors, technicians, stunt masters, and junior artistes. A special train with 20 bogies was arranged to transport the protestors numbering

2000 and the train reached Rameswaram on Sunday morning.

The procession started at 2.30 in the afternoon with the participants wearing black badges that displayed slogans supporting the cause of genocide of ethnic Tamil community in Sri Lanka. The procession was divided into four divisions and had directors and producers in the first division, actors in the second division, stunt artistes in the third division and members of the Women's wing of the South Indian movie employees' association in the fourth line.

The rally culminated into a meeting at 4.00 in the evening with speeches that voiced concern over the issue. 5,000 policemen were deployed at the site to avoid any unforeseen incidents. Also, in support for the protests and the cause noon shows of theatres in Chennai and all over Tamil Nadu were suspended.
