One ordinary day, four ordinary men, one extraordinary occurrence. This is the tagline of Saroja. A story packed into one day in the lives of four men, Tamil cinema rarely has attempts that are this different. But then, what else do you expect from the team that gave us Chennai 600028, not a run of the mill commercial mix. Saroja has been in the news ever since it was launched for all the right reasons, and if the movie even partially lives up to the expectations generated, we are surely in for a good time.
Most of the Chennai 28 team is back together for Saroja, headed by Venkat Prabhu carrying an enormous responsibility in only his second movie. The cast consists of Premgi Amaran, SPB Charan apart from a few experienced hands like Prakash Raj and Jayaram. Kajal Aggarwal, Nikitha and Vega play the female leads. The story connects four totally unrelated men who find themselves drawn into a mysterious murder. Random personalities being connected by one event, doesn’t that ring a bell- does it sound a bit like the randomness that Dasavatharam was made of? Well, there is randomness but it is not inspired from Dasavatharam, parallels have been drawn with the internationally acclaimed Babel where one story connects people in different continents. But Venkat Prabhu has categorically stated that there is nothing beyond the concept of one event and unrelated people that is common to Babel and Saroja. Saroja is completely original.

Yuvan has scored the music, and as always, he has done a good job. The interesting thing to watch out here is how the composer and director have worked together to make songs fit neatly into a script with such a short time span, a tough job even for veterans.

As we said earlier, Saroja has been in the news for a long time. Much of the credit for that goes to Chennai 28. But there are certain highlights like the huge traffic block scene that was shot at a high cost that belong entirely to Saroja. Memories of Chennai 28 have definitely helped Saroja gain attention. But, as Venkat Prabahu said, that apart from the team behind the movie, Saroja has no similarity to Chennai 28 and once the movie releases, it will have to stay on its own merits. And we are sure that the young team has ensured that.
